Yesterday was a great day of walking walking walking our way to tired sore feet! Oh, but so worth it!! We walked to one of the covered passage shopping mini malls that were developed after the fall of Napoleon. Then we walked to G. Detou for baking and cooking ingredients. Linda scored more moutarde (!) and I found a glass vial of 8 Tahaitian vanilla beans for fall baking! Next we walked to Rue Montorgueil, a street full of food shops such as Stohrer which still make 2 revered house recipes that were likely favorites of Louis XV: puits d'armour and baba au rhum. When the royal patissier left the court in 1730 he took his recipes with him and established this shop. We skipped the ancient recipes and split a chocolate eclair. Next we walked across the Jardin du Palais Royal to Epecerie Grande Bon Marche for some chocolate bars and yes, another bottle of moutarde for Linda and one with violette in it for me which has a good "bite" to it. On the way to the Epecerie, we were stopped in our tracks at a Cashmere store that drew us in from the window display. Also checked out a linen store where Linda bought a washcloth. The French don't use them. . . . Visited another market street on rue Cler where we bought 4 wonderful cheeses to try, including a Bourgogne cheese covered with raisins soaked in brandy and a buttery oozy camembert. Dinner in the apartment: simple faire with quiche bottle of red. Mileage was about 7 to 8 miles. No Metro for us!!!
